This trainwreck of a whiskey from Three Springs Bottling Co. in Bowling Green, KY. It’s proper name is “Ten Point Whitetail Buck Brand Caramel Flavored Whiskey. Yes, you read that correctly – caramel flavored. They actually added caramel to whiskey, so now it tastes like nothing but caramel. Did I mention it tastes like caramel? Because it tastes like caramel.
Luckily I only purchased a 100ml bottle (for a whopping $1.75). The first sip was actually not bad in a comical sort of way. You see, I completely failed to notice the “Caramel Flavored” on the label. I thought for a second that it might be an interesting proposition, so I had a few more sips. It felt like it was dissolving my teeth at the speed of sound. This syrup felt like it was everywhere, and that I would never be able to wash it completely from my taste buds. Luckily I did. The caramel menace is gone, and I can move on with my life pretending this stuff does not exist.
Rather than review this rediculous concoction, I’ll leave you with this video:
Wow, Prince Whiskey, sounds like you really know you stuff… Funny, first time I tried this, I said to myself, “finally, someone who isn’t playing follow the leader”. But it’s guys like (or, you could be a gal, not sure) who can’t seem to break away from the old into something new. Kinda like the boneheads who think that the Bonecollector show is good… but it’s simply horrible. And, the Birdog is some of the best tasting whiskey as well. Don’t worry, I don’t work for the company, or the marketing firm, and am not sponsored by them, I just really like their stuff and it’s obvious that you had a bad experience with Camamel growing up, not sure, but to those who read this review, trust me, it’s one of the best “new” whiskeys out there.
I totally agree
Well, to each his own, and if you like this stuff, more power to you. I still think adding artificial caramel flavor to bourbon is like adding a sugar coating to cotton candy. Caramel is supposed to be a naturally gained flavor from the ageing process, not dumped in wholesale using chemical conconctions. Just my opinion, though.
I was at a party last Week, and they were giving little 50ml bottles of liquor away. I have always been a whiskey man and seeing that I consumed quite a bit by this point, I leap at the opportunity when I saw FREE whiskey. It wasn’t untill just now, I realized that this whiskey was Whitetail Buck Brand caramel flavored whiskey. Before I decided to give it a shot, I looked it up, not e en paying attention to the “caramel flavored” label. After reading this, I agree that they should not add caramel to bourbon, how ever, I have had honey in whiskey, and it was great. I’ve also been to whiskey bars where they serve caramel cubes with glasses of nice scotch/bourbon. That was also nice. However I have never been so skeptical about drinking a whiskey. I am assuming this is artificial caramel, if so, I am even more reluctant.
In regaurds to the whitetail whiskey haters, I don’t like wine so I don’t drink it !
It doesent make you cool to only like straight whiskey .
Sorry, I disagree. Just because you are a purist, doesn’t mean that flavored whiskeys are bad. I liken them to infused cigars. While they are not everybody’s cup of tea, including mine, they do deserve merit in their class. Both Bird Dog and Whitetail received high merits and awards. By the fact you do not like them, you have no reason, nor credibility, to review them.
In response to the last two comments:
1. It does make me cool to drink straight whiskey.
2. I am allowed to review whatever I please because I live in America and have an internet account.
3. I have no credibility, so please do not insinuate that I do or ever did.
More bourbon basement in 2012!
Speaking as a Jack Daniels’ Squire, I have to say (as far as Kentucky whiskey is concerned), Whitetail is the smoothest sipping whiskey I’ve come across in a long time … at a very reasonable cost (Less than $20 for 750 ml.
If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. But, if you do, go online and fine the “whitetail whiskey” website and the places it’s available in your area are listed.
Sure, start with a miniature. (Always a good idea.) But, if you have an open mind and a palette that doesn’t reject smooth, lip-smacking-good alcohol, this may be your ticket.
try it today and it was not bad i agree if you dont like it dont buy it
I HAVE TRIED LOTS OF WHISKEYS AND AM DEFINITELY A BOURBON DRINKER. I HAVE PREFERRED JIM BEAM, BEAM BLACK, AND WHEN I CAN AFFORD IT BOOKERS. I AM ALSO A REGULAR BUYER OF WHITETAIL AND FIND IT TO BE SOMETHING ALONG THE LINES OF A DESERT LIQUOR, VERY NICE TO SIP ON ROCKS AFTER A STEAK OR WHATEVER. I PREFER TO THINK I AM OPEN TO ALL, NEXT TEST WILL BE IRISH WHISKEY BECAUSE FREINDS HAVE TOLD ME IT IS EQUALLY GREAT TASTING.
